20th Edition of Animafest Zagreb: Competition Programme Selected!

Although 1 June, the opening date of the 20^th anniversary of the Animafest, is still far, the festival preparations have already begun. Two international selection committees spent the ten days between 1 and 10 March selecting competition programme entries, and on 23 March the first press conference was held, announcing the selection results and providing basic information regarding this edition of the festival. The 20^th Animafest, dedicated to short animated film, is held 1-6 June in Europa, Tuškanac and Movieplex cinemas. The competition received 1,572 applications, 1,572 short films from 61 countries, out of which 151 films from 32 countries were selected. In addition to the competition programme, this year the Animafest Panorama is also preparing a comprehensive side programme. For instance, a retrospective of the Canadian filmmaker Frédéric Back will be screened as a side programme. The Animafest Council decided to give the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award to this renowned and acclaimed artist, therefore the special Masters of Animation programme will encompass Back’s retrospective and provide the audience with a unique insight into the complete works of this animation virtuoso.
